Surviving PC Disasters
The Bottom Line
Want your very own help desk guy or girl? Then this book is for you. It's a great resource for anyone who's experienced an unfortunate computer disaster, or for those of us who are trying to avoid the next one. And, as the authors state quite often, it's not a matter of "if"...it's a matter of "when". Anyone who diddles around on a computer or other such technology will doubtless run into some kind of annoying problem one day,and when they do, they'll have this book.

Guide Review - Surviving PC Disasters, Mishaps, and Blunders by J. Torres and P. Sideris
I know that a computer book is good when my husband, the consumnate geek, picks it up. He loved this nifty resource and so did I. Chapters include:
  • Hardware Disasters and Mishaps
  • Email and Other Internet Hazards
  • Backup and Recovery
  • Internet Fraud

and many more. The author's writing style is completely engaging, although they do get bogged down in the dreaded Techno-Speak every so often. However, they manage to redeem themselves with the plentiful "Horror Stories" sprinkled liberally throughout. These pithy little tales serve as dire warnings as to what can happen if you don't take their sage advice. Plus, some of them are really, really gut-bustingly funny. I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to anyone with a computer.
