Can You Look Up Unlisted Phone Numbers on the Web?

By Wendy Boswell, About.com

Question: Can You Look Up Unlisted Phone Numbers on the Web?

Many people have unlisted phone numbers for privacy. Can you find these unlisted phone numbers using the Web?

Answer: In a word, no. Unlisted numbers are not in a phone book, which means that they will not be inputted into a phone directory’s Web database. Cell phone numbers are practically unlisted unless you specifically ask for your cell phone number to be included in your local phone book. Every time that I’ve tried to search for a phone number on the Web and come up empty, it’s because the number fits into one of these two categories.

However, there are many ways you can find phone numbers on the Web; just not necessarily unlisted phone numbers:

  • Free Reverse Phone Number Lookup with Google: You can do a free reverse phone number lookup with Google - it's fast and pretty simple.
  • Toll Free Numbers: Looking for a toll free number? Here are a few of the best toll free phone directories on the Web.
  • Google Phone Numbers: Google has a gigantic phonebook directory, as well they should – their index is one of the largest, if not THE largest, on the Web. Here’s how you can use Google’s phonebook to find a phone number or address.
